what is this?

March 10th, 2007

march 10, 2007: i started writing this blog in feb 2006 when we started trying to get pregnant. the idea was to capture *everything*. it got kinda lame. a few months of “no, really, i think i’m pregnant” posts where i talked to myself and then nothing for over 6 months. well, it’s now march of 2007 and as you can tell by the first published post (i unpublished all the other crap), i’m officially pregnant. okay, not officially until a doctor confirms it and there’s an ultrasound and such, but i’ve “passed” two stick tests and am dealing with a lot of symptoms that have no other logical source …except maybe stress or cancer or something. but anyway.

as in the 1.0 version, i’m starting the blog before we’re officially telling folks. my parents know, R’s parents and siblings know, and a handful of friend who are so close they’ll be called aunt and uncle anyway. my immediate supervisor at work knows, only because i lasted about 2 days of knowing at work before she pulled me into a quiet space and says “what’s wrong?” she needed to know why i’d decided to go down to a 45 hour work week instead of 55+, and i needed her help keeping it less obvious until we were ready to tell.

but this is here.

why not just post on my own blog? i’m aware enough to know that not everyone wants to be inundated with play-by-play analysis of what it feels like to be pregnant. think of it as an automatic filter on my normal blog. it’s rrs’able just as much as everything else in this world, so you should have no trouble keeping up if you want to. if not, then the primary blog should still be safe, if less frequented.

oh, and i’m going to refer to “they” a lot in this blog. “they say that,” “they say i can that” etc etc. they is defined in the books and resources that are part of this site’s navigation. i am noting if not a glutton for research, and i find that cross-checking all things baby makes wise sense, plus gives me something to distract myself with when nothing is happening but i have the urge to “do something baby related.”

enjoy!
